Morrison’s Maiden Voyage

Yes, we’ve named the van Morrison. (See what we did there? Well, “we” as in Adam. I said, “we need to name the van!” He said, “how about Morrison?” And since I actually caught that one immediately…it stuck. )

Anyway…tonight is our first adventure in the campervan, what’s called (according to my coworker, who knows all things RV) our “shakedown cruise.” Not too far from home (about an hour is all) and only the one night, just to see how things “shake out” (see what they did there?) what works, how things work, what we need, what we don’t need. For instance, first discovery: we need a box for wood in the back. And a hand broom and dustpan in the camping box.

Exciting stuff!

We left a little later than expected, and as soon as we got on the road, the check engine light came on. We bought the van used, and there were some known mechanical issues that we had addressed when we bought it, so this was an unwelcome occurrence. But Adam determined we should deal with it when we get back, rather than try to resolve at five o’clock at night on our way out of town. I’ll let y’all know how that pans out. We may be living in the van out in the boondocks of Missouri if it stops running lol. It’s running fine though, so hopefully just some silly sensor.

And here we are! The trees are gorgeous and the parking pad is actually pretty level. There’s a fire crackling merrily in the firepit and we brought a bottle of wine to celebrate, as well as some takeout Chinese from the little town down the road. We weren’t mentally ready for the whole outdoor cooking adventure yet! But we’ll get there. Now I’ve got a game of cribbage to beat Adam at…
